Introduction:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations on selecting Disc-O-File V7.00.
We believe you will be pleased with this innovative program.
We have made it as simple and intuitive to use as possible.
The recording format has changed over the years; from the
early '78's, to '45's, to LP's and Cassettes and now Compact
Discs. Consequently, extensive libraries have evolved. But
where is "that" particular song by "what" artist - "who"
else recorded the same song. Disc-O-File helps organize
your personal collection according to format, category,
album, artist, song, track time etc. making it easy to
retrieve a particular selection from your music library.
Disc-O-File is a "user-friendly" menu driven cataloging system
for keeping track of your entire music library; Cassettes,
Compact Discs, Digital Audio Tapes, Records and Tapes.
Just a few of the features of Disc-O-File Plus V7.00 are:
- Add album and song data quickly and easily.
- Change any data in any field, including indexes.
- Calculate & re-calculate the album time field from the track time.
- Delete any song or album from your library.
- Route reports in several different formats or to a file.
- Browse through your library, forward and backward.
- Perform quick searches for artist, composer, index or song.
- Optimize (compress) your library for efficiency.
- Recover damaged data bases.
- Back-up data bases for added security.
- Convert prior versions to the V6.00 and later format.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Installation:
------------------------------------------------------------------
As with all features of Disc-O-File, installation is as
simple as possible. Simply insert the distribution disk in
drive A or B, type INSTALL d where d represents the receiving drive.
Pess ENTER. INSTALL creates a directory on your 'd' drive named
"\DOF" and de-compresses the Disc-O-File files there.
The rest is automatic.
To install Disc-O-File to another directory, copy file
"DOF7ZIP._XE" from the distribution disk to that directory. Rename
it to DOF7ZIP.exe, type DOF7ZIP and press ENTER. The Disc-O-File
files will be "exploded" by this self-extracting file.
------------------------------------------------------------------

the data base for a more concise and efficient file.
It should be run periodically.
B) Re-Build Indexes - When working with indexed files on any
computer, care should be taken not to 'damage' your files.

copies of your files. Use it often.

How to pay for/register Disc-O-File
-----------------------------------------------------------
Disc-O-File V7.00 is ShareWare.
You may make copies of this program and give them to others for
evaluation as long as the documentation is provided with the
program, both unaltered.
If you make use of Disc-O-File you are expected to pay a registration
fee of $30.00. Registered users will receive the latest version of
Disc-O-File and a printed manual.
See "INVOICE.DOC" for an easily printed invoice.
You may register by credit card from PsL at 1-800-2424-PsL.
The Order # is 11162.
You may also register this software thru CompuServe.
"GO SWREG" for simple instructions. The Registration ID is 1949.
-----------------------------------------------------------
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
-----------------------------------------------------------
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
-----------------------------------------------------------
Users of Disc-O-File V7.00 must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
"Disc-O-File V7.00 is supplied as is. The author disclaims all
warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
quential, which may result from the use of Disc-O-File V7.00."
Disc-O-File V7.00 is a "shareware program" and is provided at no
charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you are using Disc-O-File V7.00 and continue to
use Disc-O-File V7.00 after a reasonable trial period, you must make a
registration payment of $30.00 plus $4.00 S&H to HI-Tech Software.
The $30.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
same time.
Commercial users of Disc-O-File V7.00 must register and pay for their
copies of Disc-O-File V7.00 within 30 days of first use or their
licence is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
tacting HI-Tech Software.
Anyone distributing Disc-O-File V7.00 for any kind of remuneration must
first contact HI-Tech Software at the address below for authorization.
This authorization will be automatically granted to distributors
recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for
shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
Disc-O-File V7.00 immediately (However HI-Tech Software must still be
advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
version of Disc-O-File V7.00.).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of Disc-O-File V7.00 along to your
friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users
will receive a copy of the latest version of the Disc-O-File V7.00
system, a printed manual and 90 days free support.
